UNICEF Committee

The San Diego Committee for UNICEF is the oldest standing committee of UNA-SD. Begun in the early 1950’s, the Committee focuses on both educational and fundraising activities to benefit UNICEF. For decades, coordinating the annual school-based Trick-or-Treat (TOT) for UNICEF program throughout San Diego has been its primary task.

In years past, the Committee also helped organize a UNICEF night at a Padres game at QUALCOMM stadium. For UNICEF Tsunami Relief in 2005, the Committee also supported the largest fundraising effort in San Diego receiving over $70,000 in donations. In 2006, the Committee sponsored a party in Balboa Park to celebrate the 60th birthday of UNICEF.

This year, the committee has undertaken two new projects based in Tijuana. The Committee secured a donation of 10 computers for a new high school at the Colegio de Esperanza and currently is working to “adopt” an orphanage in Tijuana.
