LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE

Our legislative committee is dedicated to important advocacy work, educating our legislators on UNASD’s mission and promoting policies to strengthen the United Nations. These include lifting the cap on the US contribution to peacekeeping missions, US funding for the UN Population Fund, and increased UN involvement in the war in Iraq.

In 2007, we were pleased to meet with Representatives Susan Davis and Bob Filner, and with the regional director of Representative Bilbray. The committee also works locally to include government representatives in our work and to promote policies that recognize the nexus between local action and global consequences, such as global warming and divestment from Sudan.
