Our Philosophy
The United Nations was established in the aftermath of a devastating war, to help stabilize international relations and give peace a more secure foundation. Amid the threat of nuclear war and seemingly endless regional conflicts, peacekeeping has been and continues to be a fundamental priority of the United Nations.
While most of us are aware of the United Nations’ peacekeeping and humanitarian relief efforts, there are many other ways the UN affects people around the world. With a consortium of 192 sovereign states and the UN family of agencies working together, the UN works to alleviate disease, illiteracy, and poverty, ensure and promote human rights, protect the environment, fight drug trafficking, define safe standards for air travel, improve telecommunications, remove landmines, fight HIV/AIDs, and to protect children around the world.
The United Nations Association of the United States of America and the San Diego Chapter are committed to educating the public about all the critical and essential work of the United Nations. With the help of our members and through public events, fundraisers, and symposiums, we can create a stronger understanding and build greater international cooperation.
