Speakers Bureau
The Speakers Bureau works with San Diego’s diverse activist, nonprofit, and academic communities to provide opportunities to discuss important issues relevant to the United Nations and international affairs.
• UNASD had hosted several exciting presentations on issues ranging from the crises in Uganda and Darfur, the situation in Myanmar, global warming, and the UN Declaration on Human Rights. Our speakers have included UNASD members, outstanding faculty from the University of San Diego and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and nonprofit experts from organizations including the Campaign to End the Genocide in Uganda, EarthRights International, Thailand, Invisible Children, and Trade Unions Burma, Thailand.
• UNASD has members who are expert in international issues and are available to speak to your group or class on matters of current international significance, such as relations between the US and the UN, global education, international law, the war in Iraq, and the role of women in international affairs.

Educational Outreach
The UNASD Education committee invites your class to visit our Eleanor Roosevelt Classroom for an interactive introductory session on the United Nations.
Additionally, UNASD is pleased to come to your school or classroom to introduce your students to the United Nations. We have developed interactive programs for schools from the elementary through the high school level.
Our Educational Outreach Committee specifically has developed "Classrooms Without Borders," a three-day in-school program, particularly aimed at middle and high school students in and around San Diego.
Our engaged UN educators can facilitate educational development by addressing the broader objective of building and sustaining a culture of peace. In this effort, values, standards, and principles articulated in fundamental UN instruments - the UN Charter, Human Rights documents, the Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), the World Declaration on Education for All, etc. - are an integral part of this program.
Centered on developing the capacities of learners, Classroom without Borders is relevant across educational disciplines as it can be infused into traditional academic subjects such as literature, math, science, history, language, social sciences, and the arts.

Legislative Advocacy
Our Legislative Committee is dedicated to important advocacy work, educating our legislators on UNASD’s mission and promoting policies to strengthen the United Nations. These include improving the U.S.-UN relationship, strengthening the instruments of human rights and international justice, achieving the Millennium Development Goals, and promoting action on climate change.
The UNASD Legislative Committee has met with Representatives Susan Davis and Bob Filner, and with the regional director of Representative Bilbray. The committee also works locally to include government representatives in our work and to promote policies that recognize the nexus between local action and global consequences, such as global warming and divestment from Sudan.
