Friday, Sept. 17: STAND UP SAN DIEGO. Location: San Diego City College's Curran Plaza @ 1313 Park Blvd. San Diego, CA 92101 & Basic Urban Kitchen + Bar @ 410 10th Ave. San Diego, CA 92101. Time: 6:00pm - 10pm. The "Stand Up Take Action" global campaign coordinated by the United Nations Millennium Campaign comes to San Diego! "Stand Up San Diego" is one of many "Stand Up Take Action" events taking place worldwide from Sept. 17th-19th to demand that world leaders end poverty and achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals. The event will include a March for the MDGs, a Stand Up Pledge Ceremony, and a Celebration at the VIP Lounge of Basic Urban Kitchen + Bar. Saturday, Oct. 23: "OUR PLANET, OUR RESPONSIBILITY: 65 YEARS OF THE UNITED NATIONS," UNITED NATIONS DAY LUNCHEON & AWARDS CEREMONY. Location: The Prado Restaurant @ 1549 El Prado, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA 92101. Time: 11:15am - 2:00pm. This year's United Nations Day Celebration features a silent auction including a week's vacation in Kauai; "One Earth, One Dream," environmental murals from the Art Miles Mural Project; and live music by guitarist, Paul Hanna of FollowNoTrends Music. Keynote Speaker: Reno Harnish III, Ambassador in Residence & Director, Center for Environment and National Security at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
