Katharine Kubichan, President Katharine Kubichan has worked in international business for nearly 15 years, and with non-profit organizations for over 20 years. She has lived in both Brazil and Hungary and has done extensive work in marketing, sales, PR and business development in Latin America, Europe and Asia. She has worked with such firms as Qualcomm, HP, Loral Space & Communications, Verizon, PCI, AIDS Project LA and the United Nations. Katharine graduated from UCSD with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and graduated from the Graduate School of International Business Executive Program at USD with an emphasis in international trade and marketing. She founded and owns her own business since 2002 and works with numerous corporations in various industries and non-profits. She started her company to fulfill her dream of working with both corporations and non-profits to create change and bring about results via innovative and educational campaigns. Mary M. McKenzie, Ph.D. After receiving her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, Mary went to U.C. Santa Barbara. She received her doctorate in political science in 1994 and began teaching international relations at the University of Diego in 1995. Dr. McKenzie also has taught at the University of Redlands, CSU San Marcos, and Grossmont College, where she began the Model United Nations program. In December 2006, Mary received her Juris Doctor from USD. Mary has served on the UNA-SD Board of Directors since 2000 and is currently chair of the Education and Model UN Committee. She also serves as Chair of the Education Committee for the UNA’s Southern California Division and is Board Chair of Pan-American Model United Nations (PAXMUN). Mary instituted UNASD’s annual fall Southern California Model UN Training Day to expand knowledge of and participation in Model UN in schools throughout San Diego County. She also has been central to the development of the Sundays in the Park speaker series and is developing a partnership and MUN program with Colegio de la Esperanza, a school in Tijuana, to connect students in both cities through MUN. Mary is committed to fostering young peoples’ awareness of the United Nations’ role in world affairs and its indispensability in assuring a more peaceful world. Rhoda Gilbert, Secretary Rhoda taught Social Studies (8th Grade American History & 9th Grade Afro-Asian Studies) in Long Island, New York prior to moving to San Diego in 2000. Living so close to NY, she always had a strong interest in the United Nations, and was lucky enough to attend many General Assembly sessions at it’s first 'home' – Lake Success, NY, 20 minutes from her residence. Gilbert’s work with the UNA-SD commenced in March 2000, with her experience in education, she started as a member of the Education Committee, later becoming Chair of the Committee. In addition to teaching the Balboa Park Program for 5th Graders in the Eleanor Roosevelt Classroom, Gilbert trains and supervises the intern volunteers who also teach the dynamic elements of the United Nations and its programs of work. Jelena Cingel Born and raised in Bosnia, Jelena fled her native Sarajevo when war broke out in the spring of 1992. Her family fled from country to country, briefly settling in Croatia, Denmark, Germany and eventually the United States. These experiences left big impressions on Jelena, eliciting her desire to enter the field of peace studies, conflict resolution, and refugee relations. Jelena received her M.A. in Peace and Justice from the University of San Diego in 2006. Upon graduation, she accepted a position with the International Rescue Committee in San Diego where she works to help recently arrived refugees become better integrated in the community and find employment. Jelena also works with the United States Committee for Refugees and Immigrants as an International Research & Advocacy Intern. Jelena serves on the Community Service Committee and the Education Committee of the UNA-SD and has been actively working to establish new programs in the San Diego community over the past year. Some of the programs and activities she has been a part of include, the One World Youth Project, monthly networking events, and the initiative to create a YPIC under the San Diego chapter of the United Nations Association. Jelena hopes to remain active and become more involved as a board member of the UNA-SD. Drew Schneider Drew Schneider is a graduate student at the School for International Relations and Pacific Studies at UCSD, studying International Trade and Development. Prior to relocating to San Diego, Drew worked closely with the Long Beach Chapter of the United Nations Association developing community presentations and membership development. Following the 2003 invasion in Iraq he presented a series of discussion on the international legal implications of the invasion along with its impact on the United Nations. He has also implemented the Global Classrooms program in a variety of schools in the LA region. Drew was a contributing author to the 2004 UNA-USA Guide to Delegate Preparation and has served as a senior board member for several of their conferences. Floyd L Morrow Floyd L. Marrow’s professional life consisted of 40+ years of experience in law, as he retired in early 2000 to pursue his non profit work. He was able to receive an extensive education in his scholarly years, including a BBA and LLB from the University of Texas and graduate work at USIU in human behavior. Marrow’s specific involvement with UNA San Diego commenced in 1972 when Dr. Cannon recruited him to assume the City of San Diego's designated board position; during that time, he was Councilman for the 5th District and an active peace advocate. Morrow’s focus is two fold; Peace and Affordable Housing. With his goal he has accomplished both by serving as an active board member for UNA-SD and by developing and manufacturing housing in his current business, Marrow Mobiles, to benefit the low income community. Marrow also has honorable military experience including a three year stint in the US Marine Corp (1951-54), and the combat duty in Korea as a platoon sergeant, which he states, “Comes in handy because I am totally convinced as a peace activist that aggressive war and the use of force only leads to more.” Anne Hoiberg Anne Hoiberg served for 25 years as a Research Psychologist and Department Head for the Federal Government. Her curriculum vita includes two books and more than 150 scientific articles, book chapters, reports, and presentations. Through invitations from the U.S. Department of State, she has been an election observer on eight missions (four in Bosnia, two in Kosovo, Belarus, and Ukraine). She currently serves as the President, International Museum of Human Rights at San Diego; Director, Women's Equity Council of the United Nations Association, San Diego Chapter; President, Southern California National League of American Pen Women; and President, La Jolla Pen Women. She is the Past President of several organizations (e.g., United Nations Association, San Diego Chapter).
